锂离子电池以其优秀的性能已成为二次电池的主流发展方向，在新能源汽车和大规模储能系统具有巨大的增长潜力。正极材料约占锂电池制造成本的30~40%，是决定锂离子电池安全、性能、成本和寿命的关键材料。
由于便携式电子设备增长带来的对锂电池和正极材料的强劲需求，2011年全球锂电池正极材料产销量约为6.95万吨，而市场规模达到20.2亿美元，主要集中于日本、中国和韩国。
中国政府七大战略性新兴产业和《产业结构调整指导目录（2011年本）》都明确了对动力电池、储能电池和正极材料发展的政策鼓励。
锂电正极材料主要有钴酸锂、锰酸锂、镍钴锰三元材料、磷酸铁锂等，各具特点，并都已取得广泛应用。但对于其中哪种更适合作为锂离子动力电池的正极材料，目前业界仍未有定论。

Background
Lithium-ion battery LIB has become the mainstream of secondary batteries for its outsting performance; it has tremendous growth potential in the new energy vehicles large-scale energy storage system. The cathode material acs for 30~40 manufacturing costs of Li-ion battery, it is a key material to determine the safety, performance, cost life of LIB.
As driven by portable electronic devices, the dem of LIB cathode materials is strong. In 2011, the consumption of LIB cathode materials is about 69.5 kt, while the market reached USD 202 million, the main market is in Japan, China South Korea.
Chinese Government has released documents of “Planning of 7 strategic Industries” “Guiding Catalog of Industrial Structure Adjustment 2011 version", in which the development of power battery, energy storage batteries cathode materials are encouraged by the policies.
The main LIB cathode materials include LiCoO2 LCO, Li M2O2 LMO, NMC, LiFePO4 LFP etc.; each has self acteristics good applications. But this is still not clear that which one will be the most competitive for LIB power batteries in the future.
2012 China LIB Cathode Materials Conference will be held on March 27-28, 2012 in Shanghai.
